The Historic Interlaken Resort
An abandoned 19th century lakeside retreat — only accessible by boat
What is the Interlaken Resort?
Nestled on the shores of Twin Lakes in the Colorado Rockies, the Interlaken Resort was built in the late 1800s as a luxurious retreat for the state's wealthy mining elite. At its peak, it drew visitors from across the country looking to escape the heat and bustle of city life for cool mountain air and stunning alpine scenery.
Today, the resort sits abandoned — its historic buildings still standing, frozen in time, surrounded by the same breathtaking landscape that made it famous over a century ago. The grounds are preserved within the San Isabel National Forest, and the only way to reach them is by crossing the water.
That's where we come in.
Visit Interlaken by Boat
Twin Lakes Boat Tours offers narrated pontoon cruises across Twin Lakes with a stop at the Interlaken Resort. Our guides share the full history of the resort — who built it, who visited, and what life looked like here in the 1800s — as you cruise across two glacially formed lakes beneath the highest peaks in Colorado.
Once ashore, you'll have time to walk the grounds and explore the old buildings up close. It's a genuinely one-of-a-kind experience that you won't find anywhere else in Colorado.
Tours depart daily at 10:00 AM from Red Rooster Beach on Twin Lakes. The full tour is approximately 2 hours.
